The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

Each time a prominent honors show approaches, one notices an outcry to include additional classifications to honor overlooked contributions and delight the spirits of enthusiasts with niche passions.

A fellow writer has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, representing someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize since similar to single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case supporting my request is the most urgent and important of all. This is the request: We need an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and typically start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents a necessary evil for the industry of gaming, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards currently feature award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these six categories successfully include many game types, making space possible for most games within them.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. No suitable classification appears to put them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Which classification works among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers released every year lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked in any category that year
  • Another creative title was excluded that year
  • Popular arranging title got ignored in 2021
  • Only a few brain-teasers scraped into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent compact experiences, but the art in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games count as most engaged experiences globally and have been for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges popular creative games competing to become highest-selling title ever; it also contends as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and engaging with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. It would be easy to populate five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

Restating the point, these represent titles without proper classification at major gaming awards. Logic title developers function at the demanding boundary of video game design, creating some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Just like cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
